Office Group Discussion

Milestone 0

This is our group milestone where we took a team photo and laid out our whole schedule for Project 1.

Milestone 1

This document contains my whole groups individual research memos on the wind turbine as well as all of our objective trees for the 4 given scenarios that we each were assigned.

This document is my individual milestone where I did my research on wind turbines. I also made my objective tree for the specified wind turbine scenario that I was assigned.

Writing on Tablet

Milestone 2

This document goes into details about our problem statement for our given wind turbine scenario and turbine blade. In addition, we added objective trees for both situations. It goes into specific details and requirements that need to be met to attain the main goal of our wind turbine with given constraints.

Aluminum Factory

Milestone 3A

The following team document shows everyones assigned calculation for MPI for the objectives. In addition, it includes our process of deciding on our material and justification of the selection.

This is one of my individual documents in which I found out a specific MPI for one of our two objectives (minimizing mass). This was done by using Granta EduPack which helped me decide my top 5 materials that will meet my objective.

This project was about designing a windmill that met the needs of villagers in Guatemala. It consisted of 4 Milestones which tracked our process and decisions of coming to our final product of our windmill and its design.

Math Formulas

Milestone 3B

This was a team milestone where we  calculated the deflection of our blade as well as designed it in Autodesk Inventor. After designing it, we conducted a deflection simulation to find the maximum  displacement of the blade.

Wind Turbines

Milestone 4

The following document was a group milestone where each member of the group calculated deflection of the blade given a specific thickness of the blade. We found a range of thicknesses that would give a specific amount of deflection using the simulator in Autodesk Inventor. We also took notes on another groups turbine and their processes

This is my individual milestone where I calculated the deflection for my given thickness of the blade.

Final Thoughts

This project has taught us a lot about materials selection, how to implement and achieve constraints and objectives of our wind turbine and its blade. It also taught us how to use CAD modelling and simulations to verify our results and refine our turbine. Overall, it taught us how to be creative, while staying within certain boundaries, and understanding the similarities and differences between different materials.
